The Turkish envoy has denied the complicity of his country in the illegal importation of arms into Nigeria. The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), on Tuesday met with the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Hakan Cakil, over the recent seizures of pump-action rifles imported illegally into the country from Turkey. The meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service in Abuja, lasted for almost two hours. The Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Mr. Joseph Attah, said in a statement that the meeting dwelt on how to fashion out ways of dealing with the recurring cases of  illegal  arms importation from Turkey. This year alone, the NCS had on four occasions, intercepted 2,671 pump-action rifles smuggled into the country. The Senate on Tuesday said the sum of $9 billion had been spent by the federal government to defend the naira. IHS Markit published its latest analysis on the production cost of the  iPhone 8 and the  iPhone 8 Plus , announced by Apple  earlier this month . The report shows estimates the total cost of the components at respectively $247.51 and $288.08 According to analysts, the price of the iPhone 8 Plus 64 GB is $295.44 after the actual process of production and assembly. This is $17.78 higher than the iPhone 7 Plus. The reason for the higher price is, as IHS Markit puts it, “a result of slower annual component cost erosion tied in with additional features”. The extra 32 GB of storage and the new wireless charging components push the costs higher. Looking at a breakdown of the item’s prices, the display is currently the most expensive part. The 5.5” screen is $52.50, while the chassis along with the actual Gorilla Glass and the connectors come out at $50.95. The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has again lambasted those opposing the call for the restructuring of Nigeria. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has advocated total fiscal federalism, which will ensure that all parts of the country control their resources. Six members of a family were found dead at their home in the southern Indian city of Madurai in an apparent suicide pact over debt, officials said on Monday. Two more family members were rescued from their residence in a critical state late Sunday night and were being treated at hospital, administration official, Veera Rao, said. The family which ran a school, committed suicide by consuming poison and police found a suicide note that said they were under a huge loan default, Rao added. The family, in the suicide note, asked authorities to sell their property to help settle the dues, according to the police. Police were investigating if the family was under pressure from any private money lenders. A 23-year-old pastor of a Pentecostal church in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Kingsley Ihunda, has been arraigned by a chief magistrates’ court for allegedly biting an expectant mother, Ejiro Abua (not real name), on the waist during deliverance and infecting her with HIV. The incident allegedly occurred at Ada-George, Diobu in Port Harcourt Local Government, on July 27. Mrs. Abua, a mother of one, who had reportedly lost two pregnancies, was allegedly directed to the pastor by Treasure Victor, 40, a female herbalist, for special prayers.
